The Accra Academy Old Boys Association is holding a float and homecoming event on Saturday, August 15, to celebrate the school's 95th anniversary and honor its four founders. The float will commence at 7 am from the Accra Academy campus and travel through parts of the city, including a stop at Ellen House in James Town, the school's original location, before returning for the homecoming festivities.
Alfred Mills, the Organising Secretary of the Accra Academy Old Boys Association, stated on the Joy FM Super Morning Show that the float was introduced specifically to pay tribute to the founders. He described the journey to Ellen House, which was provided by Ellen Barker for the school's establishment, as a pilgrimage back to where it all began.
Belo Cida Haruna, Chairman of the Float and Homecoming Committee, emphasized that the event also focuses on supporting the school's development. As part of the celebrations, the old boys will commission several new projects for the school, including an Echo Park, a 12-unit ultra-modern washroom facility, and a six-unit classroom block.
Haruna explained that these projects demonstrate the event's purpose extends beyond reconnecting and celebrating; it is also about giving back to the school and making a positive impact. The float route will pass through Kaneshie, Mamprobi Post Office, James Town, Atta Mills Street, Adabraka Circle, and Obetsebi before concluding back at the campus. The celebration aims to unite alumni from various generations to commemorate the school's history and contribute to its future.
